Bread Bakers
Saint Vincent bread has been a popular item for nearly 150 years. Thanks to the hard work of our Parish bakers, this bread has been available on numerous occasions such as the Season of Lent and the annual Parish Festival.

Festival.

Skills or Talents for Volunteers:
A willingness to bake, bag bread or transport is all that is needed.

Two to three times per year, a few hours each time. 

Festival Committee

The annual Parish festival is held at Saint Vincent Grove, usually the last full weekend of July. The festival is held on Saturday evening and Sunday. Activities for the entire family are included which provide an opportunity for all to work together for the benefit of the Parish family. Featured are games for children and adults, Peddler’s Village (flea market of gently-used items donated by parishioners), bingo, refreshment booths and Saint Vincent Basilica Parish’s famous chicken dinners served inside the Grove building. Many volunteers are needed to ensure the success of the festival. If you would like to share even a few hours of your time, please call the Parish Office or email svpfestival@gmail.com.

Skills or Talents for Volunteers:
A willingness to help, the jobs are multiple and varied. There is something for everyone if you are willing to serve.

Time Commitment Involved:
Any time commitment — two hours to twenty. You can help in pre-planning, setup or work one of the days of the festival.

Funeral Luncheons

Funeral luncheons are hosted in the Saint Vincent Grove facility. The food is prepared by local caterers and our volunteers then heat the food, cut desserts, set the tables, prepare beverages, mix salads, etc.

Skills or Talents for Volunteers:
A pleasant presence or demeanor. Willing to work along-side 3 or 4 others in setting up the luncheon for the family of the deceased.

Time Commitment Involved:
On the day of the funeral, the volunteers arrive at the Saint Vincent Grove at 9:00 am if the Mass is at 10:00 am. Depending on the number in attendance, the group is finished around 2:00-3:00 p.m.

The families we serve truly appreciate the fact that everything is prepared for them at a difficult time.

Gardeners: Indoor

Watering, cleaning and fertilizing plants in the church, assembly room, hall outside assembly room and in the stairwell. Indoor Gardeners are also responsible for placing Christmas and Easter flowers in the Basilica. Supplies are provided by the Parish.

Skills or Talents for Volunteers:
Teams of two are assigned one or two months per calendar year. Watering is done once a week during that month. The work takes approximately one hour or longer if watering holiday flowers/plants.

How This Ministry Can Positively Affect Lives:
It is rewarding in the fact that one has, in some small way, enhanced the appearance of God’s House and made our church more inviting to our Parish community and neighbors. One gets a sense of pride and satisfaction in knowing that he/she has helped.

Gardeners: Outdoor

A dedicated group of Parishioners has taken on the annual task of landscaping the Parish Grove parking lot as well as the areas in front of the Boniface Wimmer statue and the Sportsman’s Hall monument. This ministry enhances the Saint Vincent property with a splash of colorful flowers.

Skills or Talents for Volunteers:
Basic gardening skills.

Time Commitment Involved:
Two to three times per year, a few hours each time.

Knights of Columbus (Daniel P. Nolan Council 940)

Council 940 is comprised of members from parishes in the Greater Latrobe area. The Knights have a solid insurance program, they promote family and pro-life causes and promote the priesthood. They perform community service projects such as:
• Set up of Christmas Manger Scene at Rogers¬McFeely Park in Latrobe
• Adopt-A-Highway clean-up along Unity Street Extension
• Erected Pro-Life monument at Holy Family Church in Latrobe

Skills or Talents for Volunteers:
Stewardship, leadership and a heart for service to others.

Time Commitment Involved:
Meetings are the second Monday of each month. Various opportunities to serve are offered to members as their availability, time and interest allows.

How This Ministry Can Positively Affect Lives:
One of the founding principles is charity. Often more satisfaction is felt than was given in time and talent. Activities promote, among other things, the family, pro-life causes and the priesthood.

Rosary Altar Society

The aim of the Rosarians is to bring the women of the Parish together, to foster an interest in the praise of the Blessed Virgin through devotion to her rosary and to take interest in the altar and sanctuary of the Parish. Meetings are held the second Monday of each month at 7:00 pm in the Assembly Room, except July and August. On the Sunday following the meeting, members recite the rosary before the 9:30 am Mass which is offered for the living and deceased members of the Society.

Skills or Talents for Volunteers:
No special skills or talents required other than a desire to praise the Blessed Virgin through devotion to her rosary.

Time Commitment Involved:
Once a month meeting, the second Monday of each month. Light refreshments follow the meetings, along with a 50/50 door prize drawing.

How This Ministry Can Positively Affect Lives:
Personal satisfaction in knowing one has helped to purchase vestments, altar cloths and other articles for the altar and sanctuary. It brings members closer to Jesus and His Mother.

Special Needs Support Group

The Support Group’s specific goal is to provide families of children and adults with special needs a strong faith¬filled support program and to help them feel accepted in the Parish and community.
Various activities are scheduled each month such as an evening of prayer, bowling, swimming, summer picnic, hayride and holiday parties.

Skills or Talents for Volunteers:
One who is skilled in crafts and art.

Time Commitment Involved:
Two hours once per month for meetings that are held every third Sunday at 4:00 pm at the Saint Vincent Grove. Also, help with the craft show that is held the first Sunday in November each year.

How This Ministry Can Positively Affect Lives:
The Support Group encourages participation in the Parish by persons with special needs and invites people with special needs in the Parish to come and join them.

 Saint Vincent de Paul Society

To assist with the conference’s resources and provide resources to those in need.

Skills or Talents for Volunteers
No special skills. Should be ambulatory to work in the store.

Time Commitment Involved:
Work one day per week in the St. Vincent de Paul store which provides funds for conference activities.

How This Ministry Can Positively Affect Lives:
It helps the conference to reach out to those in need and to show them that people care about their needs.
